Evaluation & Comments:
I would use this book for the younger grade levels instead of the older. I could let the students guess what would happen next as we are finding out what the dog is doing after the woman got back from getting what he wanted. It was funny to me that after each errand she went on, the request from the dog got crazier and crazier throughout the book. As for lessons, I could teach them about rhyming words. I could also hold a class discussion during read aloud time and see if the children have to do any of these chores at home. Since a lot of these things the dog does in the book doesn't really happen in real life, I could ask the students that have dogs if they have ever seen this happen. One possibility that could be set up for the first couple weeks or months of school is applying it to classroom helpers and responsibilities. Because the old woman was running around getting many tasks done for her dog, I thought it could be useful to do for each student to have a task of the day or week. That way each student has a responsibility in the classroom in order for that day to transition as smoothly as they can and they would be helping me out. 🙆
