Summary:

In this book, they include a variety of different tales and stories. The narrator, Jack, interacts with different characters that are from different fairy tales and stories in order to get to the table of contents. Some stories that are included are told in a different way from the original and don't have happy endings compared to others. To start off the book, it has a spinoff of the tale the really ugly duckling about a baby duckling who was the ugliest out of the seven ducklings and has never really changed throughout his life. It goes on to tell about the Little Red Hen and a different version of Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk, and so much more. The book finishes with a story from the giant in Jack in the Beanstalk, who really wants bread, getting his piece of bread in the end.

Evaluation & Comments:

I wouldn't necessarily use this book in my classroom, but I would love to include it in my classroom library for students to be able to flip through and read on their own time after they finished their work. The fonts and writing variation in the book can confuse new readers, so I do not suggest using this book for them. A lesson that could be incorporated into the class after reading this is to do a comparison with some of the stories to the original classics. As a whole class on the rug, they would tell some similarities and differences and the teacher would write it on the board or even the notepad paper. Later, they would go back to their table and write it in their notebooks. Another option could be to let the students be at their desks to do it as a whole class as well.
