Summary: One evening, Harold decided to go for a walk in the moonlight. With his big purple crayon, he drew a moon because he wanted to walk in the moonlight. Along the way he drew a path so he wouldn't get lost. Harold walked for a long time and decided to draw up a one tree forest that happened to be a tasty apple tree. He was afraid that someone would east the apples, so he drew up a scary dragon that even scared HIMSELF! Harold's hand with the purple crayon shook and started drawing something that became an ocean. When he started drowning, he drew up a little boat and stepped on the beach shortly after. Harold was getting hungry so he decided to draw a bunch of pie that he could not finish. After a while, Harold wanted to go home, so he drew up a hill, that turned into a mountain, and a hot air balloon to see where his bedroom window was as he was getting sleepy. However, he couldn't see HIS bedroom window no matter how many buildings or windows he drew. He decided to ask a very unhelpful policeman that he drew up himself. As he walked and walked he remembered that his bedroom window was always right where the moon was. That's when he drew a window right around the moon, drew a bed, covered himself up cozily with a blanket, dropped the big purple crayon and went right to sleep.

Evaluation & Comments: I loved this book and would absolutely want my students to read this book! I thought it was cool how Harold was able to use his imagination, creativity, and his purple crayon to draw up another imaginative world other than his own. Through this book, we are able to go on an adventure with Harold and I thought that would be fun for young students. As an activity, I would have students draw on a piece of purple paper or copy paper glued to purple construction paper and have them use purple crayons and draw whatever they wanted (school appropriate, of course!) I thought it would be a cool idea for a class display outside on the wall so that my students could get recognized by other classes of their skills.
