Princess Gie Gie lives in a kingdom under the African sky so wide and beautiful under the stars. She has the "power" to tame wild dogs, move with nature, and play with the wind. However, there is something that she cannot do and that is make fresh, clear, drinkable water come closer to her. Every day and every morning, her mom and Gie Gie travel long distances for hours just to get enough water for the time they get back home. Same with the other people in the village. Princess Gie Gie dreams that someday there will be a way that fresh water will be closer to her kingdom.

Evaluation & Comments: This was my first time reading this book. I really enjoyed it and thought it was cool to see another world and culture different from my own. I would love to use this in my classroom for activating background knowledge before actually teaching the lesson. It gives a glance of a daily life of Princess Gie Gie, a child living in the African village, getting her necessities far away. I would also use the images and discuss during the read aloud what they notice on each page. These illustrations are colorful and considered detailed that on some pages I could ask them some quick questions about things that would be related to the culture. Overall, I thought this book would be a good addition to my classroom collection / library.
